Can Duromine Be Taken While Breast Feeding?

Is it Safe to Breastfeed While on Duromine?

Soo the big question is if you can take Duromine if you are lactating and breastfeeding?

The answer should be pretty obvious, but for those who want something definitive, it is a BIG NO!

“The weight loss drug Duromine® (phentermine) is an appetite suppressant. There is no data available on the safety of Duromine during lactation and so it should not be used by women who are breastfeeding.” ((Mary Hartley. (2008, June 20). Can I Take Duromine while I’m breastfeeding?. caloriecount.about.com. Retrieved 2012-07-18.)) With so little information available, you should stay away.  Also, it acts like amphetamine and you would not want that to pass through the breast milk to your child would you?

There also have been no studies conducted that show the relation between the drug and breastfeeding. With all that information above, there is nothing that can vouch for the safety of doing such a thing.

Once again, this is a question that you should ask when you consult with your doctor. The doctor will definitely tell you the same thing that we have said, but it is a good idea to hear it from his/her mouth  :).

  1. I’m still breastfeeding my 3 and 4.5 year old toddlers. Will that make a difference if I take Dutomine to desperately loss weight oppose to younger babies?

  2. Annalize – you’re still breastfeeding your 3 and 4.5 year old?! That is beyond gross what the hell are you doing to your poor children!

  3. Hello, Just thought I would mention so you might be able to correct a tiny bit of information in this article.
There are doctors who would say yes to placing a person on duromine while breastfeeding I am just
researching the topic atm. The reason for my research is there is a forum where a young lady has asked
about taking duromine while breast feeding and because her doctor told her it would be fine to take it
while breast feeding. So not ALL doctors will say no, I think most would just not all.

  4. Katie that is a really disgusting comment and attitude!!!! Annalize is amazing for being able to provide for and nourish her children for as long as she has!!! Your comments are not warranted and are extremely unfounded – there is a lot of evidence to support the fact that breastfeeding for as long as possible is extremely beneficial for children. It is comments like yours that make women feel uncomfortable and guilty about their decisions to nurture their children. Mummies are under enough pressure – they do not need the extra insensitive comments that you provide. If you do not like the idea of breast feeding a child for longer than say, 12 months, then that is perfectly ok, just please do not force your opinion on other people! For those of us that can breast feeding is a beautiful and magic time – please do not devalue it!
