I know that if you are reading this page, you are looking to find out as much information as possible as it relates to Duromine.
One question that we get asked a lot is how does Duromine work? It is pretty important to understand exactly how this drug operates in the body, especially if you are planning on taking it.
Duromine (generic name: Phentermine) is a drug that suppresses your appetitie. There are chemicals in the drug that affect the central nervous system (CNS) and the end result of that is a reduction in hunger cravings. Once it begins to affect the CNS, neurons are discharged and these help to increase or sustain specific levels of catecholamines. Catecholamines are a specific group of neurotransmitters that contain norepinephrine, adrenaline and dopamine. When the catecholamines levels are increased in the system, the brain then recognizes these signals and what follows is that the feeling of hunger is suppressed. You will have no desire to eat and there will be no hunger pains or cravings.
A Deeper Look at Duromine at Work
Duromine has other effects on the body and the brain.
- When take, Duromine directly affects the levels of leptin that can be found in the brain. “Leptin is a hormone that is tied closely to regulating energy intake and expenditure, including appetite, metabolism and hunger” ((Christie Wilcox. (2009, June 15). “Understanding Our Bodies: Leptin (The Fullness Hormone)” Nutritionwonderland.com. Retrieved 2012-11-21)). How Duromine works is that it is capable of increasing leptin levels and this results in the brain understanding that you are not hungry and that the stomach is full. Right here the brain is tricked, as it will feel as if it doesn’t need food and that there is enough fuel in the body, even though this is truly not the case.
- As mentioned above, adrenaline is released when Duromine is taken. Adrenaline is a very important neurotransmitter that is located in the brain. It is responsible for triggering the flight-or-flight mechanism in the body when it thinks that you are in danger.Another way that the hunger sensations in the body are reduced is that adrenaline tells the body that it is in danger and as a result, hunger cravings disappear, as the body will place the focus on flight-or-fight as opposed to focusing on unimportant things such as being hungry.
- Duromine is able to block the action of the peptide, Neuropeptide Y. This peptide detects when there is a reduction in the amount of energy that is stored in the body fat. It sends signals that indicate that it should reduce the amount of energy used by resting and increasing the amount of fat that is stored in the body. Duromine stops this action and the result is that the body is tricked into burning the fat that is stored as energy.
The Use of Duromine
Duromine is prescribed as a drug that is used to treat and manage problems associated with people who are overweight and obese. This drug is only prescribed for short-term use and generally, people who take it should not use it for more than 12 weeks. To get the most out of using Duromine, it is a good idea to use the drug, as well as incorporate an overall weight reduction plan. This would include a proper exercise regimen, as well as a healthy diet.
There are 3 main reasons why Duromine is only prescribed for short-term use.
- There are research studies that indicate that people who take Duromine could suffer from tachyphylaxis. This is where the body will become tolerant of the drug and it will lose the effectiveness it once had. People often try to increase the dosage as a way to make Duromine more effective. This actually does the opposite as an increase in Duromine can result in serious side effects.
- The longer the individual takes the drug, the higher their chances of having serious side effects.
- Taking the drug for periods longer than 12 weeks increases the possibility of an individual becoming dependent on Duromine. They will have difficulties in stopping the use of the drug and they may experience symptoms of withdrawal.
When Should Duromine Not Be Used?
Duromine is not for everybody and this is why it is important to consult with a medical doctor before taking this medication. Nhis is extremely important if you suffer from some of the medical conditions listed below.
- Duromine should not be used if people have an allergic reaction to the drug.
- Diabetes mellitus
- Anorexia nervosa
- High blood pressure
- Angina
- Arrhytmia
- Brain disorder
- Spinal cord problem
- Overactive thyroid
- Suicidal tendencies
- Glaucoma
- Drug and alcohol abuse
The information was useful. thanks.
I have used duromine, the first week i felt very skattery, I couldnt really have a conversation with ppl and i didnt sleep much, meanwhile this was on the 40mg. After a week maybe a little more, my body adjusted to it, i was able to sleep a little better and was allot more normal during the day. I still feel tired at around 3 in the afternoon and sometimes need a nap but other than that it was very effective for me. It is a great weightloss when you have tried everything else. Use it and also work out, although your heart rate will race more than normal it makes allot of difference.. I lost 10 kilos in a matter of weeks and went from depressed to motivated, i weaned myself off the duromine by taking one every 2- 3 days then eventually nothing.. kept the weight off and felt great! Its worth a try but you need to get over the feelings for the first few weeks..
and the other thing, make sure you still eat!! its still very effective but i sometimes felt sick if i didnt eat! i know your not normally hungry but if you get used to eating either nothing or not much once you get off this, youl just put the weight back on!!
Ya well I strated yesterday, I drink a lot of water to try and avoid the after effects, I used them before but had to stop cause I was still in high school I couldn’t focus, but they work with a right diet and execise. I’m on 30g, just wanna do it for 2 months.
I started taking Duromine 40mg and noticed a dramatic weight loss. It somehow, and I have researched this and found nothing, Made me feel very tired. I am happy with that though considering I am prone to insomnia naturally. Within the first 24 hours on Duromine, I lost 4.5cm off my waist measurements and continue to notice dramatic changes. Along with duromine, I ate nothing unhealthy, cut out milk (Since I was a milk and iced coffee yunkie) and exercised an extreme amount. There are skeptical people out there that don’t recommend more than 90 minutes of exercise a day, I on the other hand had a mind frame in place *recommended for anyone starting a diet and exercise plan.* If you want to lose weight, you need to be in the right mind frame. You need to be ready to make a huge life change. You need motivation and dedication and above all, you need to accept that you have a weight problem and you WILL fix it. Not try to fix it. Keep a food journal. Exercise every area of your body, do cardio mostly and push yourself when you know you are able to. I exercised approximately 5 hours a day. Do note that I intended to rid myself of my weight problem and not sit around just hoping taking a pill would take care of me. I went from 101kg to 52 Kg. Weigh yourself weekly to make sure once you have finished Duromine that you are maintaining your goal weight. Increase exercise and monitor food intake if weight is gained. Take duromine again if you are slipping back into old habits. This being the last option if exercise and diet doesn’t help. Do note, if you gain up to 7kilos back after duromine, taking it again until the weight gained back is gone is much better than just say in my case going from 52kg to 95kg and then deciding I need the assistance again. Nip it in the bud! Good Luck anyone who is reading this. You are the only person who will take care of yourself properly. Don’t wake up one morning like i did and suddenly notice how over weight I’d become. Let it be a life change and enjoy the experience.
When I say in my case, I didn’t actually go from 52 kilos to 95kilos. I was speaking metaphorically. Point being, if you experience any weight gain after finishing duromine, don’t let it become a massive amount of weight gained back and put your body and mind under the stress of starting again. I fluctuate from 52kg to 55kg. Always keeping up with healthy eating and exercise to maintain all the weight I lost.
I started 40 mg Duromine about 7 weeks ago when I topped the scales at 126.4 kg and as I am due to have a knee replacement in Aug 2013, I am frightened of the risk of stroke & blood clots due to being over weight. I have struggled with my weight for the last 30 years, yo- yo ing up & down. I am extremely motivated now as I have lost 13 kg. I had the very dry mouth to begin with but now am feeling great 🙂
I have an 8wk old baby (breastfeeding) & i’d really like to lose 20kg frm the last 2pregnancies…is it safe to take duromine while breastfeeding?
Hi. I took duromine (duromine- generic name is metermine) about a year ago. I lost 10-15kgs. I’ve kept 10 off. (I now weigh 86kgs) There was a fairly quick gain of 2-3 kgs, even when I was being very careful. I think it’s just how my body readjusted.
Previously I have found duromine to feel like a caffein overdose in the first week. Shaky, on edge, high energy, cannot concentrate and cannot sleep well. I also found my skin on my face looked terribly aged and dry if I didn’t have a lot of water and moisturise daily. I’d advise taking up some multivitamins and purchasing moisturiser. My hair seemed to thin out a lot too.
I stopped after 6 weeks, as I felt I needed to break from metermine and I’d gotten amazing results, dropping 2-3 kgs in week 1 and at least 1-2 kgs each week that followed, by week 6, the weight was slower to move. Also I skipped meals because I wasn’t hungry, this caused my stomach to cramp and hurt. I did find I was sketchy, unfocused and jumpy on duromine. i was anxious daily at work and became caught up in fine details like a perfectionist. It was hindering my performance and I found myself snapping at my boss and working ridiculous hours. I also had to avoid coffee whilst on metermine. I am pointing all the experiences out as though they were big and bad, but these things were noticeable only in reflection, at the time I had no explanation for my behaviours as they seemed marginally PMS symptomatic to me and I didn’t tie them to metermine until I was off metermine.
For some great reason, this drug changed my mindset. The weight loss made me happy but long after having stopped metermine and even still, I am happier and I have an ability to see things around me more clearly. It feels like I had been living with depression goggles on for years. I don’t really know how to explain it, it wasn’t instantaneous. But gradually within a month after having stopped it I just felt different. More aware, more content than I was before. Another plus side, is when you go to the gym on metermine, you’ll be making and hitting new personal bests weekly, and you will sweat way more than usual. But a gym session would help me regulate my sleep.
I was and am as of today, now taking the 30 dosage. And hopefully for 1 month. Since exercising 4-6 days a week is showing NO results for me. And I cut sugar, soft drink and junk food from my diet back in January and have been finding my portion size can’t be reduced, I’m simply hungry and for me, I can’t think of anything but food when I am hungry. I decided to go back on the metermine since portion sizes seem to sort themselves out and I am 10kgs from where I really want to be. 12-15 from where I “should” be according to BMI. I’ve got my moisturiser ready, and vitamins. And I will be working hard to make sure I sleep, exercise daily and eat regularly especially if I don’t feel like it. It’s easy to get a healthy routine for food whilst on metermine because you don’t want food or crave anything. I’m trying to set a habbit I can keep now I understand more about how the drug affects me. I am super thirsty right now, as expected especially in the first three weeks. Off I go to drink water, eat something and try to write an assignment on day 1 of metermine.
I’ve never taken a drug other than pill and I’m very nervous to take this drug! I’m needing 15 kg off as I suffer from back and hip problems, which is a reason why I can’t exercise very much. Is duromine safe for someone who can’t exercise a lot?
hi guys, my doctor has prescribed me duromine 40 tablets so I googled it and found this page. I am so scared to take these as I have heard all this bad stuff about it and how people turn into ogres and such. I have never taken anything like this before, I have 35 kgs to lose for my health (strain on my joints causing a big problem). is there a way to combat the side effects at all??
Started 30mg duromine today, bit nervous about all I read? Fingers crossed?
I found my mouth to be extremely, extremely dry. even when I drank water it was unbearable. my lips were red raw & I just couldnt continue on duromine. I was on it for about a week.
